Behind Every Real Estate Sign Is a Real Person

Technology has changed the way people buy and sell real estate.

Today, buyers can schedule showings online in seconds. Property information is available instantly. Questions can be answered with a quick search, and consumers expect information faster than ever before.

Many of these advancements are wonderful. They make the process more convenient and help real estate professionals serve their clients more efficiently.

But there is one thing technology sometimes causes us to forget:

There is still a real person on the other side.

As Realtors, we understand the importance of responsiveness. We know that when a buyer finds the right property, timing matters. We know that when someone has a question, they want an answer quickly. We know that opportunities can be missed if we don't stay on top of our business.

Most of us gladly put our clients first.

What many people don't see are the hours spent researching properties before a phone call is ever returned. The conversations with lenders, title companies, inspectors, zoning offices, and municipalities. The evenings spent preparing offers, reviewing documents, and solving problems before they become someone else's problem.

Many consumers never see that work because it happens behind the scenes.

At the same time, Realtors are also people.

We are husbands and wives. We are parents and grandparents. We have families, health concerns, community commitments, and responsibilities outside of work. Sometimes we are attending a child's sporting event. Sometimes we're having dinner with our spouse. Sometimes we're taking care of a family member or simply taking a few hours to recharge so we can continue serving others well.

The expectation in today's world is often immediate availability. If a phone call isn't returned instantly, or a message isn't answered within minutes, people sometimes move on to the next person.

I understand why. Everyone wants great service.

My only request is this: remember there is a human being on the other end of the phone.

Most Realtors are deeply invested in their communities. According to industry surveys, nearly three-quarters of broker-owners volunteer regularly in their communities. Ninety percent make charitable donations, and the majority actively encourage community involvement among their agents.

Real estate professionals aren't simply selling homes. They are coaching youth sports, serving on local boards, supporting charities, sponsoring community events, donating to local causes, and helping strengthen the places they call home.

The next time you reach out to a Realtor, contractor, small business owner, or service professional, remember that there is a person behind the business.

A person who is doing their best to serve their clients while also showing up for their family, their health, and their community.

Technology may continue to change how we communicate, but I hope we never lose sight of the people behind the screens.

Because at the end of the day, relationships still matter.

And every business owner, Realtor, and professional is a real person first.
